Pudukottai (TN), May 2 (PTI) Pledged gold jewels weighing three kg are missing from a nationalised bank's branch here with officials suspecting the role of a temporary employee, who has not turned up for duty in the past ten days, behind it, police said.

The officials got suspicious about the long absence of the employee and checked the bank locker when they found three kg of gold jewels, a portion of the pledged gold, missing.

A complaint had been lodged with the Police who are investigating.

Meanwhile, customers who had pledged their jewels with bank thronged the branch on hearing about the theft.

According to the officials, the missing employee was an appraiser engaged on a temporary basis for assessing the value of the jewels.
