Muzaffarnagar, Jun 25 (PTI) Four persons were killed and at least three injured in an explosion in a scrap shop in the Sarvat Road area here today, police said.
The blast took place when some people were breaking scrap material in the shop under the Civil Lines police station, Circle Officer Harish Bhadoria said.
Police personnel and a fire brigade rushed to the spot and began rescue operations after receiving information about the incident.
The deceased, who were handling the scrap material, were identified as Tanzim (50), Shehzad (55), officials said. Two passers by, Nisar and Nawajish, were also killed, they added.
An investigation is underway to identify the material that caused the explosion, officials said.
SP, City, Ombir Singh said an Army explosive unit will reach tonight to determine what had caused the explosion.
The injured, Kaiser Begum, Naushad and Yusuf, were rushed to a hospital, officials said.
