Dhalai (Tripura) [India], May 26 (ANI): A betel leaf farmer was severely injured after allegedly being shot by unidentified people in a jungle in Tripura's Dhalai district, police said on Sunday.
According to officials, the victim, identified as Santhithang Halam, a resident of Dhonchhora, was initially treated at Dhalai District Hospital before being transferred to AGMC & GBP Hospital for advanced care.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon while Halam, who frequently collects betel leaves in the forest, was going about his routine.
He was unexpectedly shot by unknown assailants, sustaining three bullet wounds.

"I was in the forest collecting betel leaves when I was suddenly shot. I was hit by three bullets and couldn't see anyone. I called my family for help, and they rescued me," he said.
Halam was rushed to Dhalai district hospital for treatment.
Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was then moved to AGMC & GBP Hospital for further medical attention.
The Ambasha police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the accused.
