Shillong (Meghalaya) [India], October 20 (ANI): The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya seized clothing items worth more than Rs 12 lakhs from the bordering area of West Garo Hills on October 19.

"Acting on specific tip-off, vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya on Oct 19, 2024, seized clothing items worth more than Rs 12 lakhs from the bordering area of West Garo Hills," according to BSF Meghalaya press release.

The consignment was seized by troops of 100 BN BSF when the miscreants were trying to cross it over to Bangladesh.

"On being challenged by BSF, smugglers fled from the spot by taking advantage of thick vegetation and undulating terrain, leaving behind their bundles. Upon searching, bundles of clothes were found from the spot which were seized by BSF troops," said the press release.

The seized items were handed over to the concerned customs office.

Earlier on October 17, BSF Meghalaya apprehended a Bangladeshi national involved in the smuggling of sugar to Bangladesh along the International Border in the East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.

According to the BSF, on October 15, alert troops of the 4th Battalion BSF observed suspicious movement near the International Border involving some Bangladeshi smugglers carrying head loads. (ANI)
