India News | Tripura: Police Seize 85 Kg of Dry Cannabis, 2 Held

Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 24 (ANI): The Sonamura District Police apprehended two people for smuggling 23 packets containing a total of 85 kilogrammes of dried cannabis late last night, said the police.

The accused were identified as Jitendra Jamatia, and his associate, Fiju Jamatia.

According to Jayanta Kr Dey, officer-in-charge of Sonamura Police Station, "The incident occurred during a routine vehicle check in the Khedabari area. Police officers, stationed for regular checks, became suspicious of a car bearing registration number TR 03 N 0421. Upon halting the vehicle, a thorough search revealed 23 packets containing a total of 85 kilograms of dried cannabis."

"The driver, Jitendra Jamatia, and his associate, Fiju Jamatia, were immediately detained. The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is between 35 lakhs to 40 lakhs rupees," said the official.

Following the arrest, the vehicle and the confiscated cannabis were taken to the Sonamura police station.

Officials disclosed that an NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case was filed against the suspects on Thursday night, and investigations are underway.

The Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station stated that the accused will be presented in court on Friday. (ANI)
