Director Mohit Suri and Aditya Roy Kapur were supposed to reunite for a romantic movie that was touted as the third installment in the Aashiqui franchise. The duo has collaborated for Aashiqui 2, which was a huge hit in their careers. However, since then, both the director and the actor are going through a low phase in their careers. Mohit Suri's last movie, Half Girlfriend, is called a hit but it was mercilessly ravaged by the critics. Aditya Roy Kapur is yet to deliver a hit as a leading man after Aashiqui 2, with the disastrous response of last year's OK Jaanu being the deal-breaker.

However, Aashiqui 3 looked promising, since the audience are suckers for anything related to a franchise. However, it looks like the movie might not get made at all.

As per a report in DNA, the first signs of troubles came when Suri was unable to rope in a female lead. They had nearly roped in Kriti Sanon for the role, but she walked out of the project and three other actresses rejected the role over Aditya's current market standing. The publication quotes a source saying, “However, Mohit never blinked. He wanted only Aditya to be his leading man. Mohit knows that every actor goes through a hit-and-miss phase. And he was confident that his film would give Aditya the correct positioning. But, two days ago, even Mohit couldn’t handle the actor’s pre-conditions. He reportedly had enough and they decided to part ways.”

Apparently what broke the deal was the project turning from a solo hero project to a two-hero movie. The makers were eyeing Sunny Singh of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety fame to play the second lead, which didn't go down well with Aditya Roy Kapur. Also they couldn't find a leading lady for the movie. So it is reported that they dropped the project.

We will have to wait and watch for both Mohit Suri and Aditya Roy Kapur's official confirmation on this.
