Game of Thrones season 8 is undoubtedly one of the most trending shows and is garnering rave reviews. The most anticipated HBO series premiered with a bam and took the internet by a storm, as critics and Twitterati cannot stop gushing about the film. The third episode of the season, The Long Night, raised the excitement n-folds and the crazy turn-of-events brought overwhelming audience applause. However, despite the episode becoming the most tweeted about TV episode in Twitter history, a report suggests that the critics were not in awe of the episode. Game of Thrones Season 8: Sophie Turner Dabs Her Way to Mark the Triumph Over Killing Night King, Maisie Williams AKA Arya Stark Shares Video.

The Long Night received more than 52 million tweets in just a single day, which is extraordinary for any film or TV show. The episode saw many drastic and unexpected changes, which the fans were not really prepared to witness. The blurry and dark cinematography also came out as an added flaw. According to a report on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the episode received an exciting but disappointing rating of 75% after registering 93 reviews, making it the second worst rated episode in the entire series. The 75% ratings are considered to be healthy, but when it comes to GOT, being average is similar to bad reviews. There are 22 episodes in the show that have earned 100% ratings so far.

However, this is only the second worst episode, with the tag of the worst episode still reserved by the sixth episode of season 5, Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken. This is the same episode in which Sansa Stark is married to Ramsay Bolton, after which she is raped horrifyingly. The scene received heavy criticism and became controversial among fans from across the globe.

Talking about The Long Night, many fans complained about the episode being too dark to see anything. The visuals were so dark that it was making it impossible to understand the dramatic and fast turn of events. Fabian Wagner, the man behind the lens for the episode explained the much-criticised dimly-lit cinematography. “A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly. A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway... If you watch a night scene in a brightly lit room then that won’t help you see the image properly,” he said.

He said it was a conscious decision to limit the use of lighting on the nighttime battlefield. “The showrunners decided that this had to be a dark episode. We’d seen so many battle scenes over the years – to make it truly impactful and to care for the characters, you have to find a unique way of portraying the story,” the cinematographer added.
