The situations in Kerala continue to be grim as hundreds of people are still trapped in flooded areas. Although rescue operations are going in full force, landslides, broken roads, incessant rains have made rescue for the forces. Around 15,000 people have been rescued in the last nine days and shifted to relief centres. Prime Minister Narendra Modi who talked to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan about the flood situation will conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas on Saturday. Due to the strong flow of underground water in hilly areas, houses on hills have come tumbling down. Cochin International Airport will remain closed till August 26 due to waterlogging. The Periyar river has flooded the airport because of which the airport will open only on August 26.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier said that Kerala is facing the worst flood situation since 1924. The rescue forces of Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) trying their best for relief. Majorly affected places include Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Alappuzha. The central government has deployed 339 motorised boats, 2,800 life jackets, 1,400 life buoys, 27 light towers and 1,000 raincoats.
