Jammu, June 16:  The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar held a sit-in protest on Sunday, demanding implementation of 7th pay commission among various other demands. It must be noted that SSA is implemented as a flagship programme of GoI for universalizing elementary education. The programme was launched in the State of J&K in the year 2002-03.

Earlier this month, staffers of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) went on strike for 18 days, demanding implementation of the 7th pay commission. However, reports by PTI inform that they will now get salaries as per the seventh pay commission recommendations starting this June.

While speaking to the JDA employees, the Minister Housing and Urban Development Sat Sharma said that the seventh pay commission benefits will be released by the vice chairman JDA in the salary of June along with the arrears.  According to a PTI report, Sharma advised employees to not fall prey to any false propaganda and ensure growth and development of the authority.

The government’s latest decision on 7th pay commision is set to benefit around 23 lakh retired teachers and non-teaching staff of universities. According to the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission, the Centre has revised pension of retired faculty and other non-teaching staff in Central Universities and Colleges.

Reports inform that with the implementation of this decision, around 25,000 present pensioners of Central Universities and UGC maintained deemed to be universities will benefit to the tune of Rs 6000 to Rs 18,000.
