New Delhi, Sept 26: The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to issue two key verdicts tomorrow, which are bound to impact the over two-decade-old litigation on Ayodhya land dispute. The bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra will issue the ruling on whether the case would be reheard by a larger bench, and whether "namaz in mosque" is integral to Islam.

The Muslim litigants had approached the apex court seeking the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute being referred to a five-judge constitution bench. Notably, the three-judge bench headed by the CJI has already reserved its verdict on the sensitive issue. If the court rules in the litigants' favour, the case would be reheard, further delaying the final judgement. Shiv Sena Seeks Ordinance Route Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

The court, meanwhile, would also decide on whether the 1994 SC judgement which said that namaz could be offered at any place, not necessarily in a mosque, should be revisited.

The litigants want the court to reconsider the 1994 judgement, as it allows the state to acquire lands where mosques are built if necessitated.

According to BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, the apex court should dismiss the pleas as "entertaining them" would only further delay the final outcome. "The Muslim side knows they are losing the case. These are diversionary tactics," he said.

The Ayodhya land dispute was taken to the courts in 1992, when Hindu activists under the banner of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, razed the five-century-old Babri Masjid built on the site which the VHP claims to be the birthplace of Lord Ram.
