New Delhi, April 30: After Sri Lanka banned all types of burqas and face covers in the wake of the horrific suicide bombings that rattled the entire country on Easter Sunday, right-wing outfit Hindu Sena demanded the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to impose a similar ban on burqa and niqab across India to prevent terror attacks. Rajiv Gauba, Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta has written a letter to Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba seeking a ban on burqa and niqab.

"Please impose a ban on full-face covers and dresses like burqa and niqab at all public places and inside government and private institutions. These kind of head coverings enable terrorists to hide their identity from CCTV cameras and other surveillance measures in place. Sri Lanka has already implemented this policy,” Gupta said in his letter. He mentioned intelligence failures in Sri Lanka led to synchronized suicide bombings by terrorists in churches, resulting in more than 250 deaths. Hindu Sena Pays Tributes to Queen Victoria on Death Anniv, Says She Freed India from Autocratic Mughals.

“We request you to immediately formulate policies at both tactical and strategic levels to prevent occurrence of such attacks in India and Indian territories, including embassies and high commissions, all across the world,” the letter read. Sri Lanka Monday enforced a ban on burqa, a week after suicide bombers claiming links to Islamic State blew themselves up, killing more than 250 people in churches and hotels on Easter Sunday.

The decision to ban burqas across the country came just days after a Sri Lankan parliamentarian MP Ashu Marasinghe had submitted a Private Member's Motion to ban the burqa on security grounds post the Easter Sunday blasts. Marasinghe, in his motion submitted to parliament, said the burka is not a part of traditional Muslim attire and is used to around the world by men to hide behind and carry out acts of terrorism, Colombo Page reported.
