Barmer, January 4: Local authorities have arrested a woman and her associate for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 40 lakh from a lawyer after recording him in a "honey-trap" operation in Rajasthan's Barmer district. The arrests took place on Saturday, January 3, following a formal complaint by the victim, who alleged he was being blackmailed with an explicit video and threats of a false rape accusation.
According to the police report, the accused woman, identified as Priyanka, allegedly lured the lawyer into a trap where an obscene video was recorded without his consent. Using this footage as leverage, she and her accomplice, Kamal Singh, reportedly demanded Rs 40 lakh to keep the video private. The victim stated that the accused threatened to circulate the video on social media and file a fabricated criminal case against him if the demand was not met. Fearing for his reputation and legal standing, the lawyer reportedly paid an initial sum of ₹50,000 before approaching the police.
Arrests and Evidence Seizure
Following the victim's complaint, the Barmer Kotwali police launched an investigation and apprehended both suspects.

Kamal Singh: A resident of Barmer, he was reportedly tasked with collecting the extorted funds.
Police confirmed they have seized the ₹50,000 paid by the victim and have taken custody of the electronic devices allegedly used to record and store the explicit content. Legal Proceedings
The Barmer Kotwali Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to extortion and criminal intimidation. The duo was produced before a local court, which remanded them to two days of police custody for further interrogation.
Investigators are currently working to determine if the pair are part of a larger organized syndicate targeting professionals in the region. They are also examining call records and digital footprints to see if other individuals have fallen victim to similar schemes.
