Panaji, December 20: A 42-year-old British woman was allegedly raped by an unknown person on Thursday morning near the popular Palolem beach in South Goa's Canacona town. According to the victim, the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m, when she was walking from the Cacacona railway station to her rented accommodation in Palolem village. French Court Sentences Buddhist Monk to 12 Years for Rapes.

According to the police, the victim had gone to catch a train from Cacacona to Thivim station. But as the train got delayed she was going back to her place, where, she was staying near the Palolem beach. Swami Nithyananda, Accused in Rape Case, Rumoured to Have Fled India.

“The accused, who saw the woman walking alone, pushed her to a paddy field on the roadside near a telecom company’s office. He first hit her in the eyes, due to which her vision blurred for a few minutes, and then raped her,” the police official said, quoting the complaint.

After committing the crime, the accused fled from the spot while taking three bags of the victim. A search operation has been launched to nab the culprit, police said, adding that the whole area is rounded up. Police have registered First Information Report (FIR) under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the unidentified accused.
