Chennai, July 24: In a tragic incident, at least six people lost their lives after falling from an overcrowded suburban EMU train near St Thomas Mount Railway station in Chennai on Tuesday. According to a report by UNI India, seven other people have sustained injuries and have been rushed to the nearby hospital. The report further informs that two commuters were killed after a fatal fall on Monday night while four others died on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place after the commuters either slipped and fell on the tracks or probably their bags hit the concrete wall in a curve while the train entered the station. The train was delayed due to the snapping of overhead power cables between Mambalam and Kodambakkam stations and hence was overcrowded. Soon after the incident, RPF Police Personnel and fire service personnel were pressed into service.

Out of the six dead, four were travelling on the footboard when the incident took place. As per details by Police, four people died when the packed EMU Fast train was proceeding to Thirumalpur from Chennai Beach at around 9 AM on Tuesday morning.

As per preliminary inquiry, Police informs that three of the deceased, who had a fatal fall today, were identified as school student Bharath and college students Praveen Kumar and Sivakumar. The identification process of the fourth victim and the two, who died last night was on, Railway Protection Force (RPF) Inspector General of Police Veerendra Kumar said.

Reports inform that the seven injured were admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital and they were being given the best of treatment. Out of the seven, one person is said to have lost his lower limbs in the accident.
