Patna, January 2: Dense fog and cold wave conditions continued to grip North India even on Thursday, throwing life out of gear in several states. In Bihar, there was no respite from the biting cold wave as minimum temperatures continued to drop in the state capital, Met officials said. In the wake of the weather conditions, all schools in Patna up to 10th standard have declared a holiday till January 5. In December, after the Patna MeT department declared that cold wave conditions would prevail in Bihar, the government had ordered all schools in Patna to remain closed till January 2. Dense Fog Engulfs North India, 21 Trains in Northern Region Running Late Due to Low Visibility.

According to the weather scientists, the mornings are going to be cold and relief for people from light sunshine in the afternoon. Some areas may also receive light rain on January 1 and 2. Due to severe cold conditions, schools, academic activities in In Muzaffarpur schools were suspended from nursery to class 8 till December 29.

On January 1, the cold wave in north India including the Delhi NCR region reduced as day temperatures rose on New Year's Day and touching almost 20 degrees Celsius in Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department, day temperatures have risen by 3-7 degrees Celsius over most parts of the northern plains of India, while Delhi has seen a rise of 5-6 degrees Celsius over Tuesday.
