Delhi, January 5: The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA), in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, has announced that the first National Lok Adalat of 2026 will be held on Saturday, January 10. This session is specifically aimed at clearing the massive backlog of pending traffic e-challans and notices across the capital.
Authorities have confirmed that approximately 1.80 lakh challans will be available for settlement, providing a significant opportunity for motorists to resolve minor traffic violations through reduced fines or full waivers. The event, which was originally scheduled for December 2025, was postponed following a Delhi High Court directive. It will now take place across all seven district court complexes in Delhi, including Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini, Dwarka, Saket, and Rouse Avenue. Delhi Traffic Challan Waiver: Mandatory Online Token Registration
To manage the high volume of participants, authorities have implemented a strict digital token system. The registration link on the official Delhi Traffic Police website became active today, January 5, at 10:00 AM.
- Daily Limits: To prevent website crashes, downloads are capped at 45,000 tokens per day.
- Total Capacity: The system will remain open until the total limit of 1.80 lakh challans is reached.
- Vehicle Caps: Each individual is permitted to settle up to two challans and five notices for private vehicles, or two entries for commercial vehicles.
Eligible Offenses and Documentation to Settle Your Delhi Traffic Challan Dues
Only "compoundable" traffic violations issued up to November 30, 2025, and transferred to virtual courts are eligible for this session. These typically include:
- Signal jumping and overspeeding (within limits).
- Driving without a helmet or seatbelt.
- Improper parking or missing PUC certificates.
Serious offenses, such as Drunk Driving, Hit-and-Run cases, and Dangerous Driving, are strictly excluded and cannot be settled at a Lok Adalat. Participants must bring a printed copy of their token, the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), a valid Driving License, and a government-issued ID to the assigned court.
Delhi Traffic Challan: Settlement Process
On the day of the event, benches comprising judicial officers and legal representatives will review cases starting at 10:00 AM. The decisions made by the Lok Adalat are equivalent to a civil court decree and are final; there is no provision for an appeal once a settlement is reached.
Motorists are advised to download their tokens early, as slots in popular court complexes like Saket and Tis Hazari often fill up within hours of the link going live. For those unable to secure a token this time, the next National Lok Adalat for the year is tentatively scheduled for March 14, 2026.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce judicial pendency while offering financial relief to citizens for "compoundable" offenses, violations that can be legally settled through a compromise.
