Muzaffarpur, June 17: With the death toll due to acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) in Bihar's Muzaffarpur crossed 100, National Human Right Commission had issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Bihar government seeking a detailed report in deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Muzaffarpur.

Along with this, the Commission has also sought the status of implementation of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Japanese Encephalitis Virus/Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (NPPCJA) and other steps taken to deal with the situation. Earlier, local BJP MP Ajay Nishad accepted that there is a lack of doctors but they're working to get the situation in control. Nishad was of the opinion that more ICUs need to construct in the hospitals in Bihar for the treatment of patients.

Expressing his opinion on the current crisis, Nishad said, as ANI quotes, "There's lack of doctors but they're working. It's not like every patient coming for treatment is dying, 70% are being cured. But there should not have been any death. Science has made so much advancement but we can't control a disease. Unfortunate!"

Adding more he said, "Children from entire Bihar come to Muzaffarpur, number of ICUs need to be increased. 1-3 children are being treated on the same bed, shows a lack of resources. If we work on it now, the situation will be under control next year."

Earlier, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced that they would hold protests across Bihar on June 24 over Muzaffarpur Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) deaths. He also gave directions to the health department, district administration and doctors to take necessary measures to fight the disease.
