Gurugram, March 23: In a shocking case of hate crime and mob violence from Haryana, the members of Muslim family were beaten with iron rods and sticks and their house was pelted stones by a mob of around 40 men in Gurugram's Bhondsi on Thursday. According to reports, police claimed that the brawl was triggered over playing cricket in Holi but the victim family said it was a planned attack by a Hindutva outfit.

A video of the incident doing rounds on the internet shows over ten men mercilessly attack the family's male members with hockey sticks and rods in balcony even as a woman pleaded them to stop. The mob continued to beat one man until he bled and fell unconscious. Speaking to ANI, Samira, a member of victim family, said, "We were making food for some guests when suddenly they entered our home. They beat me up with sticks when I tried to stop them. I asked them what has happened. But they said 'aaj in mulloh ko chodna nahi (Don't leave these Muslims today)'. They went upstairs, broke windows and doors and thrashed them brutally."

According to police, the incident took place around 5 pm. Shahid, a victim, told police in his statement that around seven drunk men asked them not to play cricket on streets outside their house in Bhup Singh Nagar. But when they continued to play, the drunk men were joined by 40 others who attacked the family with rods and sticks. The attackers also told them 'Go Back to Pakistan' and 'Play Cricket in Pakistan.'

"We have registered a case of attempt to murder and other relevant sections against the attackers at Bhondsi Police station. We have arrested six goons and efforts are on to identify others with the help of the video," ACP Shamsher Singh said. Meanwhile, police security has been installed for the victim family.
