New Delhi, November 11: A local court on Wednesday granted bail to Honeypreet Insan, close aide of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, in the Panchkula violence case. The 37-year-old actor was taken into arrest in September 2017, for her alleged role in the violence which rocked Panchkula on the day when Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced in the twin rape case. Panchkula Violence: Sedition Charges Against Honeypreet Insan Dropped by District Court.

Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of Gurmeet, was earlier charged by the police as being the prime organiser of the anti-state violent agitation staged by the Dera cadres. She was slapped with the stringent sedition charge, along with 40 other members of the Dera including the group's spokesperson Aditya Insan and other core committee members.

Honeypreet moved the bail application after the court, five days ago, dropped sedition charges against her and 40 others. Subsequently, her counsel filed a plea seeking her released from the prison. The bench, while hearing the bail application, agreed to release her on condition of bail bond and other sureties.

Honeypreet, apart from being a close aide of the jailed self-styled godman, is also his adopted daughter. The duo starred as lead pairs in the three movies directed by the Dera chief.

Notably, the violence in Panchkula -- which led to the imprisonment of over 40 Dera members -- was reported on August 25, 2017, the day when Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years of jail term. The Special CBI Court in Panchkula held him guilty of raping two of his former disciples. Subsequently, the Dera members stationed in Panchkula went on a rampage by attacking media personnel, and ransacking public property and shops.
