Hyderabad, March 31: A 29-year-old driver has been arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly murdering two women in separate incidents to steal their gold jewellery and repay debts accumulated through online gambling and betting. Police said the accused, identified as K Vasu, targeted vulnerable victims, lured them with offers of a lift, and killed them before disposing of their bodies on the city’s outskirts. The arrest was made by Jubilee Hills police after they linked two missing persons complaints to unidentified bodies recovered from different locations. Investigators used CCTV footage and mobile phone data analysis to track the suspect and establish his involvement.

Police said Vasu, who worked as a driver for a doctor, confessed during interrogation to carrying out both killings. The bodies of the victims were later recovered from areas in Narsingi and Mokila, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Hyderabad Shocker: Drunk Driver Drags Traffic Cop on Mercedes Bonnet for 800 Metres in Gachibowli, Arrested as Video Goes Viral.

First Victim Targeted for Jewellery

According to investigators, the first victim, a 70-year-old woman identified as Yadamma, was killed on March 11. The accused had noticed her wearing gold jewellery and offered to drop her home. He allegedly drove her to an isolated location near Gandipet, where he strangled her using a rope and took her jewellery. However, he later discovered that most of the ornaments were imitation, managing to obtain only a small amount after pledging part of it.

Second Murder Followed Similar Pattern

Days later, on March 14, the accused allegedly targeted a second victim, 56-year-old Jayamma, a domestic worker. Using a similar method, he offered her a lift and then attacked her inside the vehicle. Police said he strangled her from the back seat before dumping her body in a remote area. He later pledged her jewellery, receiving a modest sum. Hyderabad Shocker: Schoolgirl Forced to Consume Alcohol, Gang Raped By 3 At Knife Point; Rescued After 36 Hours.

Motive Linked to Gambling Debts

Investigators said the accused had accumulated debts of over ₹1 lakh due to online gambling and betting. The financial pressure is believed to have driven him to commit the crimes. Officials added that the accused deliberately targeted women wearing visible jewellery, planning the crimes in advance and choosing isolated locations to avoid detection.

Ongoing Investigation

Police are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and complete legal procedures. Authorities are also examining whether the accused may have been involved in other similar crimes. The case highlights concerns over rising cyber-linked gambling addiction and its potential link to violent crime, as well as the importance of surveillance and data analysis in solving complex cases.
