The sudden change in weather brought an added winter chill, testing the resolve of performers, security personnel and spectators ahead of the grand parade on January 26.
Early morning showers were reported across several areas of the capital, leading to a noticeable dip in temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi and adjoining regions, warning of thunderstorms and light rain due to an active western disturbance. The full dress rehearsal followed the same route that will be used for the main Republic Day 2026 parade. This year’s celebrations will feature 30 tableaux, 17 from States and Union Territories and 13 from various Ministries, Departments and Services, along with military contingents, cultural performances and displays of India’s technological achievements.
January weather in Delhi is known for its unpredictability, with western disturbances often bringing sudden rain and cold winds.
