Jammu, July 25: The security forces on Wednesday gunned down two terrorists in an encounter in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town in south Kashmir. The encounter that started in Anantnag this morning has been concluded and the combing operation is underway. On basis of incriminating materials seized, it's established that the terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The J&K Police informed that one of the terrorists was identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar while the identity of the other terrorist is yet to be ascertained.  According to reports, train service on the Srinagar-Banihal route was suspended and mobile internet services were also been snapped in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district following the encounter.

According to a report by Greater Kashmir, the gunfight began after the army 1 RR, Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and 162 and 40 BN CRPF launched a search operation in the area. The encounter took place following inputs about the presence of militants around midnight. A senior officer said that the two or three militants trapped in the area belong to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group.

Reports inform that two militants are believed to be trapped by the forces inside a house in the  Lal Chowk area of the town. Officials informed that the first gunshot was heard around 4 am. The Anantnag police in a tweet informed that the area has been cordoned off. “Presence of suspected militants in Lal chowk (area) of Anantnag town. The area is cordoned off for search. Details will follow (sic),” it said on Twitter.
