Pune, June 18: Lonavala is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Maharashtra for visitors from Mumbai, Pune and across the country. However, the renowned hotels in Lonavala came under the radar of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as they were found serving meals with stale meat, vegetables and other product. The matter came to light after FDA carried out a special drive before monsoon to ensure safe and hygienic food for tourists. The notice has been issued to the offenders and stocks have been destroyed. According to a report in Pune Mirror, inspections were carried out on Friday in 10 hotels, where renowned resorts were seen violating the Food and Safety Act (FSA), 2006. According to the FDA officials, Kumar Resort was found serving expired chicken. Hotel United 21 was using expired bread and spices. Kinara Village was found guilty of using expired boneless chicken, and unhygienic kitchen condition. Hotel Dela Vista was using expired masalas, cereals, pulses and other products. Some of the hotels and resorts were operating in filthy conditions and using rotten vegetables, reported Pune Mirror.

While the stale stocks were seized and have been destroyed, it is difficult to comment since when they were flouting norms. The FDA will be issuing notices to the accused hotels and further action will be taken against them.
