The patient, identified as Manisha Ghodmade, is currently in critical condition after undergoing a second surgery at a private facility in Indore.

The incident has raised concerns about surgical safety protocols after the patient’s condition deteriorated following her initial procedure at the district hospital. According to available information, the patient, a resident of Selda village, underwent surgery at Khargone District Hospital on March 17. She was discharged after the procedure, but her health reportedly worsened in the following days.

Her family then shifted her to a private hospital in Indore, where diagnostic tests revealed that a surgical napkin had been left inside her stomach. Officials from the Madhya Pradesh Health Department have initiated an inquiry into the matter. Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajkumari Devda described the case as serious and confirmed that a three-member team of senior doctors has been constituted to investigate.

The committee has been tasked with examining whether standard operating procedures were followed during the surgery and identifying those responsible for the lapse.

Authorities said action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. The investigation will also review adherence to surgical protocols, including mandatory instrument and material counts during operations.
