Mumbai, July 11: A domestic quarrel turned fatal in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district on Thursday, July 10, after an 11-month-old child was killed when a trishul (trident) struck him on the head during a violent altercation between family members. A case has been registered into the matter and a probe has been launched.

According to the report published by the NDTV, the incident took place in the Ambegaon rehabilitation colony in Kedgaon, around 70 km from Pune. The deceased child has been identified as Avdhut Mengwade. As per the report, a heated argument broke out between Pallavi Mengwade and her husband, Sachin Mengwade. Murder Over Same-Sex Relations in Sangli: 2 Teenagers Kill Youth by Drowning Him in Lake in Maharashtra After He Refuses To Have Homosexual Relations With Them.

During the dispute, Pallavi allegedly picked up a trishul and attempted to attack her brother-in-law, Nitin Mengwade, who was trying to intervene along with his wife, Bhagyashree. At the time, Bhagyashree was holding her infant son, Avdhut.

As Nitin tried to evade the attack, the trishul accidentally struck the baby, causing a grievous head injury. The child was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Senior Inspector Narayan Deshmukh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against both Pallavi and Sachin Mengwade. Police also suspect an attempt to tamper with evidence, as the trishul was found cleaned and bloodstains at the scene were reportedly wiped. A forensic team has collected samples from the location, and further investigation is underway.

In another incident reported Jalna, the police arrested a couple for allegedly killing their one-month-old girl. The child's body was found in a well in Asarkheda village on April 12, Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal told reporters. "Chandajhira police formed teams to solve the case. We were not getting initial leads, but the help of ASHA and anganwadi workers, who maintain records of births, was invaluable. Along with them, we screened 1000 newborns in 60 villages in the area," he said.

"During this search, we found that one Pooja Pawar, a resident of Wakhri Wadgaon Tanda village, had given birth to a girl who had gone missing. This raised suspicion. Moreover, the child was last seen with the couple," the SP said. On sustained interrogation, Pooja Pawar and her husband Satish Pawar confessed to killing the child and throwing the body in a well, investigating officer inspector Samratsingh Rajput said.
