Mumbai, April 23: Police in Nagpur are intensifying their investigation into a local non-governmental organization (NGO) following serious allegations of sexual harassment, molestation and religious coercion brought against its president/director, Riyaz Fazil Qazi. Cops will secure one year’s worth of CCTV video clips from the NGO’s premises, spanning from July 2025 to the present. Investigators intend to analyse this digital evidence to establish a pattern of behaviour and corroborate the testimonies provided by former employees.

Qazi, 48, was arrested late last Saturday and remains in police custody through April 23. The investigation was triggered by complaints from at least four female employees, including the organization's 23-year-old head of HR and administration. Nagpur NGO S*x Abuse Case: Director Riyaz Fazil Qazi Arrested for Molestation, Forced Conversion Claims.

The complainants allege that Qazi routinely summoned them to his private cabin, where he would switch off the CCTV cameras before making inappropriate physical advances, reported Times of India. Beyond these allegations, survivors have reported being coerced into adopting specific religious practices, such as offering Namaz and observing Roza, under the threat of professional retaliation.

Additional claims include the creation of a fraudulent Instagram account allegedly used by the NGO head to stalk and defame female staff members. Allegations Against Nagpur NGO Chief Riyaz Fazil Qazi

Senior police officials confirmed that the retrieval of the long-term surveillance footage is a critical component of their case. "Besides call records, digital evidence, and witness statements collected during the office raid, the one-year footage will be crucial in collating evidence," a senior officer was quoted as saying.

Cops are currently facing challenges in counseling the survivors, many of whom remain traumatized and hesitant to provide detailed statements. In response, police have deployed female officers to build confidence and ensure the protection and confidentiality of those coming forward.

Nagpur NGO Under Stringent Scrutiny

The NGO, which has operated in Nagpur for approximately 16 years with a stated mission of providing education to underprivileged children, is now facing a comprehensive audit. Police have seized laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices during raids on the office. Investigators are actively reaching out to former employees who may have left the organization in recent years to determine the full scope of the alleged misconduct. Furthermore, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is assisting the local police in examining the NGO’s funding sources and broader operational activities.
