Bhubaneshwar, November 5: Five Naxals were killed in encounter between security forces and Naxals in Kalimela area of Malkangiri, early morning on Monday. More details are awaited as it is a developing story.

In an earlier crackdown on Naxals in Chhattisgarh, 15 Naxals were killed on August 6 in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. The gunfight took place in a forest area in south Sukma, around 500 km from Raipur. The bodies of Naxals were recovered, and a large amount of firearms were also seized from the encounter site. Four naxals were also apprehended from the area including an area committee member who had a bounty of Rs five lakh. However, a naxal ambush on October 30 left DD cameraperson Achyutanand Sahu dead, apart from two police officials who were guarding the crew on election duty in the poll bound state. Three naxals were also killed in the exchange of fire.
