Puri, July 16: Incessant rainfall in Odisha triggered flood-like situation at various places, bringing normal life to a standstill. The rainwater entered houses in Bhubaneswar, giving locals a harrowing time. Reports informed that the heavy downpour since Saturday has inundated acres of farmland in Aska and Kabisuryanagar area in Ganjam district.

The Met department has issued an amber-coded alert warning for parts of Odisha, predicting more heavy rainfall on Monday. The Fire Department personnel on Monday were seen rescuing stranded people from a flooded residential area in Bhubaneswar. People complained saying despite Bhubaneswar being a smart city, there are no facilities for local people.

The locals said they had requested the government to look into the matter but no action was taken. "We request the govt to look into the matter. It is not something new, heavy rainfall leads to water logging due to the bad drainage system in the area. Although it is a smart city there are no facilities here", the locals said.

Over the weekend, Odisha witnessed heavy rain due to a well-marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. According to reports, heavy rains lashed several areas across the state including Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Balangir, Nuapada and Nabarangpur districts. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms also lashed Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack.
