Raipur, February 20: Police have arrested two individuals following a dangerous incident at a petrol pump in Raipur's Birgaon area, where a young man deliberately ignited a motorcycle's fuel tank with a lighter. The swift intervention of petrol pump staff prevented a potentially catastrophic explosion at the facility, which was crowded with customers and employees at the time of the incident.

The event took place on the evening of February 17, at approximately 7:00 PM, at a fuel pump located within the jurisdiction of the Urla police station. While at the pump, the individual riding pillion reportedly attempted to light a cigarette. When his companion, alleged to be a friend, warned him of the extreme danger of smoking on the premises, the man, who allegedy appeared to be in an inebriated state, became enraged.  In an act of defiance, he used a lighter to set fire directly to the bike's fuel tank. A video surfaced online shows the man setting his friend's bike on fire during refuelling, triggering a major blaze at the station after he was stopped from smoking near the petrol pump.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the incident shows flames immediately erupting from the vehicle. As sparks began to fall on the accused, both men panicked and fled the scene on foot. Petrol pump employees acted instantly, deploying fire extinguishers to douse the blaze before it could spread to the underground fuel reservoirs or other vehicles. Police Action and Arrests

Following the circulation of the CCTV footage on social media, Urla police launched an investigation to track down the suspects. Using the vehicle’s registration details and the digital evidence, officers successfully identified and apprehended both men on Thursday, February 19.
