Hyderabad, January 30: A suspected food poisoning incident at a government primary school in Telangana's Khammam district left 38 students hospitalised on Thursday, January 29. The students of Bodiyathanda Government Primary School in Konijerla mandal fell ill shortly after consuming a mid-day meal consisting of dal and rice.

While most students are reported to be stable, medical officials at the Khammam Government Hospital confirmed that at least 10 children remain in critical condition and are under close observation. The incident triggered immediate panic in the Bodia Thanda village as children began complaining of severe stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the absence of immediate official transport, alarmed parents and villagers used autorickshaws and two-wheelers to rush the affected children to the hospital. Telangana Human Rights Commission Takes Suo Motu Cognisance of Sangareddy Mid-Day Meal Food Poisoning Incident.

According to local reports, the symptoms appeared within an hour of the meal service. Hospital staff and emergency medical teams were mobilized to handle the influx of young patients. District Education Officer (DEO) Chaitanya Jaini stated that while the situation is serious, the medical team is providing specialized care to those in critical condition.

Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) and other local officials visited the hospital late Friday to monitor the children's progress and coordinate with the families. Wyra MLA Maloth Ramdas Naik also met with the victims, assuring parents that the state would provide all necessary advanced medical support. Vikarabad Shocker: Telangana Nurse Poisons Parents to Death Over Love Marriage Opposition (Watch Video).

The state education department has ordered an immediate inquiry into the quality of ingredients used in the meal. Food samples from the school kitchen have been collected for laboratory testing to identify the exact cause of the contamination.

This event marks the second major food poisoning case in the state within 48 hours. On Thursday, January 29, approximately 45 students in Sangareddy district were hospitalized after consuming spoiled sambar and rice. The recurring nature of these incidents has drawn sharp criticism from child rights activists and local leaders regarding the oversight of mid-day meal agencies.

Following the recent surge in such cases, the Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the health crisis in government schools. The commission has reportedly directed district collectors to submit detailed reports on food safety protocols by February 24.
