Firozabad, October 21: In a harrowing incident from Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad, noted Urdu poet Hashim Firozabadi was attacked with acid by youth whom he confronted as they were sexually harassing a girl. Firozabadi was physically brutalised by the hooligans, who also threw acid on his face and hands.

Following the assault on Friday, the Rasoolpur police station, under whose jurisdiction the crime occurred, registered a case. The accused, identified as Saif, Musaif, Saqlain Sunny and Achhe, have been named in the FIR. The charges were yet to be framed as the preliminary probe is underway. Minor Raped in UP by 17-Year-old Neighbour Near Her House In Chandauli.

Speaking to reporters, Firozabadi said he was approached by a person in his locality whose daughter is being harassed by the miscreants. The accused obtained the girl's number and were dialling to eve-tease her, apart from following her enroute the tution classes.

Since the girl's father was reluctant to approach the police, the poet decided to call one of the accused - based on the mobile number from which they dialled the girl. The miscreants, however, paid no heed to his warning. This prompted Firozabadi to approach them in person and caution them against eve-teasing the girl.

The youth instead of heeding to his warning, attacked Firozabadi with a sharp weapon and threw acid on him.

The incident drew a sharp reaction from the poets' community in the state, who have urged the police to take stringent action. Firozabadi has been attacked for standing up to save the honour of a girl, said fellow poet Amir Akbarabadi, demanding the authorities to take the strictest action against those involved.
