Bengaluru, May 19: Soon after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa announced that he is stepping down from his Chief Ministerial post, there were all cheers from the Congress and JD-S well in the Karnataka State Assembly.

Soon after his resignation, a video that went viral on social media showed BS Yeddyurappa along with his BJP MLAs walking away despite the national anthem going on. Twitterati claimed that it is an insult and this sparked a controversy on social media.

Days of high voltage political battle came to a major juncture on Saturday, where BJP finally lost it as they couldn't gather the support of the required MLAs that were needed to prove majority in the House.

"BS Yeddyurappa insulted the national anthem by walking out and not waiting for the anthem. But that’s ok, he is from the BJP and bhakts won’t make an issue of it. They will look for some reason or the other to call left-liberals anti-national", a Twitter user said.

Another Twitter user said, "Yedyyurappa ji resigns in disgrace. He and BJP MLAs walk out while National Anthem was still playing. These are the self-proclaimed 'nationalists'".

Meanwhile, senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai took to Twitter and said, "Why did the BJP MLAs walk out of the Karnataka assembly even without waiting for the national anthem? Patriotism above politics surely".

Sorry losers, the BJP walked out of the Vidhan Saudha immediately after Yeddy resigned, didn't even wait for the national anthem to get over. Anti Nationals !!

Also, in 2015,  a video of Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala disrespecting the National Anthem had gone viral. Vala was seen walking away while the national anthem was being played.

To recall, the BJP was eight short of the majority mark in the 224-member Karnataka Assembly. The party managed to win the first round of the legal battle but failed to gather the support of MLAs to prove majority for the floor test.

As the party couldn't match up to the majority number, Yeddyurappa stepped down from his post, saying that he is thankful for the love and support people gave him. "The election results are now out. Today is the floor test. Think for once, if we had 113, the picture would have been different," BS Yeddyurappa said.
