Bolangir is a key Lok Sabha Constituency of Odisha. The voting for the parliamentary polls 2019 on this seat will take place in the second phase on April 18. Before delimitation in 2008, the legislative assembly segments, which constituted this parliamentary constituency were: Nawapara, Titilagarh, Kantabanji, Patnagarh, Saintala, Loisinga and Bolangir. Currently, the constituency comprises of seven assembly seats - Birmaharajpur, Sonepur, Loisingha, Patnagarh, Balangir, Titlagarh and

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded two times MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo from Bolangir while Samarendra Mishra is contesting on the Congress ticket. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a ticket to Sangeeta Deo from this constituency.  The last date of filing nominations for the seat was March 26. The scrutiny of nominations papers took place on March 27. Meanwhile, the last date of withdrawal of candidature was March 29. In 2014, Kalikesh Narayan had won the seat on the BJD ticket defeating BJP's three times MP Sangeet Kumari Deo with a margin of over 90,000 votes. While, Congress' Sarat Patnaik came at the third spot.  From 1998 to 2004, the BJP had consecutively won this seat thrice.

On March 10, the Election Commission of India announced dates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The elections will take place in seven phases, and the results will be declared on May 23. Along with Lok Sabha elections, the second phase voting for Odisha Assembly Elections 2019 will also take place on the same date. A total of 900 million voters are registered across the country as compared to 814.5 million in Lok Sabha Elections 2014.
