Lucknow, December 30: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Udit Raj, defending the UP government's law and order arrangement after the Ghazipur stone pelting incident that killed a police constable and injured two other people, said that "one or two isolated incidents in the state cannot substantiate that something is wrong with law and order." Raj termed the incident as unfortunate but refused to acknowledge that the recent incidents of mob violence in UP is an alarming situation. Udit Raj said that the state of Uttar Pradesh has a population of 25 crore people, and hence the argument that "one or two isolated incidents in the state" cannot lead one to the conclusion that the security situation in the state is weak. Meanwhile, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, replying to questions raised by reporters on UP's law and order said situation, blamed "some elements for trying to disturb (law & order) environment. Goyal said that "people tell me miscreants prefer to stay behind bars, they are afraid of coming out. This kind of situation has been seen for first time. It's unfortunate that Bulandshahr and Ghazipur incidents happened, some elements are trying to disturb environment."

A Uttar Pradesh (UP) police constable was killed and two civilians were injured on Saturday when a mob demanding reservation allegedly threw stones after the police tried to evacuate them from the road.
