Mumbai, April 4: Senior Dalit leader and chief of the Bahujan Vanchit Aghadi (BVA), Prakash Ambedkar, has been booked for his threat to "jail the Election Commission" if elected to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019. The FIR against him was registered in Yavatmal, where the three-time MP made the contentious remarks during a rally on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission has asked the Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer to prepare a report into the matter. The CEO had directed the District Magistrate of Yavatmal to inquire into the case and submit his findings.

"This is an instance of clear-cut violation of our instructions... In this particular case, we have sought a detailed report from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Maharashtra that cases are being registered under appropriate law against Prakash Ambedkar," Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar told the media.

Ambedkar, who heads the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM), formed the Aghadi in coalition with Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The alliance is contesting from Maharashtra.

While addressing a poll rally in Yavatmal yesterday, Ambedkar said the EC is acting as a "puppet" of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party by disallowing the Opposition to raise the issue of Pulwama terror attack.

"The armed forces are being sacrificed and the EC says we cannot speak about the Pulwama attack. But we shall speak about it because the Constitution grants us this freedom," Ambedkar, the grandson of the architect of Indian Constitution B.R. Ambedkar, said.

"The EC has become a puppet in the hands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). If our government comes to power, we shall not rest till we throw the EC into jail for at least two days," he further added.

In the upcoming polls, Ambedkar is contesting from two constituencies -- Akola, his stronghold, and Solapur, where the Congress has fielded from former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
