New Delhi, November 24:Ā The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) affiliate and India’s largest trade union body, on Friday severely criticized Union government's attempt to merge 13 labour laws. According to a report in business daily Livemint, the Central government plans to merge the labour laws into a single code based on occupational safety and working conditions.

It so happened that the labour ministry sent a notice to trade unions two days ago to attend a meet on the proposed reforms in the laws. However, 10 trade unions refused the labour ministry's offer to meet the ministry over the reforms issue, saying that just a two-day notice in advance is not enough for deliberation on such an important issue.

The BMS, in a letter to the labour ministry, said that the ā€œCodification of about 13 labour laws is a welcome move. But the very purpose of codification is defeated when it excludes many of the important constituents in the world of work. The law should be applicable to the last worker in the country,ā€ clarified the trade union to the ministry.

According to the report, the government was keen on presenting and passing the code on occupational health and safety in the winter session of Parliament, which begins on December 11. Parliament's Winter Session 2018-19 From December 11 to January 8, Recommends CCPA.

But the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) close ties with the RSS, the ideological head of the ruling BJP, will make it mandatory for the Labour ministry to ensure that the trade union agree for the meeting and proposed reforms.
