Counting of votes for 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, including Surkhi, Deori, Rehli, Naryawali, Sagar and Banda, has begun.

Bhopal, December 11: Counting of votes for the results of Madhya Pradesh assembly elections 2018 will begin at 8 am. 230 seats of Madhya Pradesh assembly, which includes Surkhi, Deori, Rehli, Naryawali, Sagar and Banda Vidhan Sabha seats, went to polls on November 28. To retain Surkhi seat, the BJP replaced its sitting MLA Parul Shah Kesari with Sudhir Yadav, who had a tough electoral fight from Congress candidate Govind Singh Rajput. In Deori, the Congress fielded incumbent MLA Harsh Yadav who was challenged by BJP's Sudhir Yadav. In Rehli, BJP exuded confidence in its sitting legislator Gopal Bhargav who faced a tough contest from Congress's nominee Kamlesh Sahu.

The Naryawali assembly seat witnessed a contest incumbent BJP MLA Pradeep Lariya and Congress's candidate Surendra Choudhary. In Sagar, BJP fielded sitting MLA Shailendra Jain against Congress nominee Nevi Jain. In Banda, the electoral fight is between BJP's Harvansh Rathore and Congress candidate Tarwar Singh Lodhi. While, the BJP contested all 230 seats, the Congress fielded candidates in 229 seats leaving one seat, Jatara in Tikamgarh district, for Sharad Yadav-led LJD.

A majority of exit polls predicted a victory for the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, which the BJP has ruled since 2003. The BJP had won 166 seats in 2013 Assembly polls, while the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had bagged 58 and four seats respectively.
