Poonch, June 20: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday met family members of Sepoy Aurangzeb, who was abducted and killed by terrorists last week in Kashmir's Pulwama district. Sitharaman, along with officials went all the way to the remote Salani hamlet in the frontier Poonch district to convey condolence in their hour of grief.

"I came to meet martyr's family. I have spent some time here. One message I can take back from here is that here's a family, here's a martyr, who stands out as an inspiration for the entire nation",  Sitharaman said after meeting Aurangzeb's family.

Aurangzeb, who belonged to the 44, Rashtriya Rifles, was on way home to celebrate Eid when terrorists abducted him. Two days before Sitharaman's visit, Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat met the family members of the deceased soldier in Poonch and spent over 30 minutes with them.

For the unversed, Aurangzeb of 44, Rashtriya Rifles, was abducted and killed by terrorists in Pulwama district. He was part of Major Rohit Shukla's team, which eliminated Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Sameer Tiger.

The deadly attack took place on June 14 when he was on his way home to celebrate Eid. As per reports, Aurangzeb boarded a private vehicle for Shopian, from where he was supposed to go to Rajouri district. The terrorists intercepted the vehicle as it approached Kalampora and abducted the jawan. Later, his bullet-riddled body was found by at Gussu village, about 10 km from Kalampora, in Pulwama district.
