Craving a hot plate of monsoon special snacks? Here’s a list of what among them you should avoid, to stay fit throughout the season. As Whale Hunting Resumes in Japan, Restaurants Selling Whale Meat Rejoice.

Fried Food

We all love watching the rains from our windows and devouring some hot, savoury pakodas. But these aren’t as good as you think. Eating oily food in monsoons can lead to a cough and what not. Avoid the deep fried monsoon favourites like samosas, vada pav or pakodas. Sure, dig in once in a while with family and friends.

Curd

Curd is known to keep one cold. Do you know why Bollywood moms always fed their children curd before they step out for a big day? Not for good luck, but the scientific reason is that curd helps to keep your body cold throughout the day and helps you from dehydration. Curd is wonderful in summers but avoid curd in monsoon unless you want to get sick.

Pani Puri

Do we have to even mention this one? We all know the problems pani puri brings every monsoon. It is capable of carrying many water-borne diseases such as jaundice. The cold water may give you a sore throat, cold and cough. And plus, the water used in the stalls could be contaminated as contamination of water is very common in monsoon.

Leafy Vegetables

Leafy vegetables are the perfect breeding ground for germs in monsoons. The consistency of the leafy vegetables when they get wet can easily grow germs and bacteria. It is advised to stay away from your favourite greens and leafy vegetables in monsoon. If you do want to eat veggies, always cook them thoroughly before consuming.

Seafood

It’s common sense that if the water is contaminated, the things living in it will also be affected. Seafood is often contaminated with loads of bacteria in this season and doctors recommend staying away from it. Save your seafood cravings for some other season. Make sure you clean and cook it very well if you still want to enjoy some fish curry in the rains.

You do not need to boycott these things. But limit your consumption to only a few times. These things harm you more than they taste good.
