May 23 was an important day for all Indians because it was the day the results of the Lok Sabha election were declared. But while most people would have been glued to their TV sets to check the results, a bride in Madhya Pradesh ran off with the priest who had performed her wedding rites just two weeks ago on May 7! What is even more interesting is how the people found out of the case. Vinod Maharaj was a regular priest at a temple in the village of Asath. On May 23, Maharaj was supposed to preside over the rites of another wedding at the village. The rituals started but people could not locate the priest. As per reports in Dainik Bhaskar, the girl was married to a man from Asath village on May 7. She had returned to her mother's house three days after the wedding. On May 23, the people were readying themselves for another wedding in the vicinity. Vinod Maharaj, being a regular priest, was expected at the venue to perform the rituals. When people started looking for him, they realised that even the girl is missing from the house. The girl's relatives headed to the police station to register a complaint.

On the following day, on further investigation about the two, it was revealed that the priest was already married and has two children. In fact, his whole family was missing from the day the incident took place. As per some locals of the area, the girl and the priest had been in a relationship from two years! It was also reported that the girl ran away with jewellery worth  Rs 1.5 lakh and cash of about Rs 30,000. Since the girl is above 18 years of age, a missing report has been registered.
