A tribal couple in Odisha’s Rayagada district was subjected to public humiliation and expelled from their village for marrying in violation of old community customs. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 9, in Kanjamajodi village in Rayagada. The couple, Kodia Saraka (32) and his paternal aunt, were allegedly forced to carry a plough across their shoulders and till land as a form of “purification” after villagers found out about their relationship. A Video of the punishment surfaced on social media. The union, considered taboo due to close blood relation, led to their expulsion from the village after the ritual.
