Looks like it is going to be another round of ICC (International Cricket Council) vs BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Reportedly, ICC has proposed a change in format of Champions Trophy to be held in India in 2021. According to a report in Times of India, the game’s governing body wants Champions Trophy to be held in T20 format instead of 50-over. The move, if it takes the final shape, is believed to be suggested by some member boards in order to make the Champions Trophy more marketable.

However, it is unlikely that BCCI will welcome the change in format. The report quoted a source saying, “The format cannot and will not change. The Champions Trophy was introduced as part of the vision of our former president Jagmohan Dalmiya and it’ll be his fifth anniversary when the tournament is hosted by India. This (proposed) move has been brought to the notice of the (BCCI) members and should the ICC persist, there’ll be a strong opposition from India.”

It looks like the Indian cricket board have made their mind and will strongly oppose the idea of change in format. In fact, as per the report, the BCCI has already decided to host the final of the Champions Trophy in Kolkata keeping Dalmiya’s significance as a global leader of the game in mind.
