In this third part of the series, we take you back in time to the 1999 Cricket World Cup, hosted primarily by England with Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The ICC Cricket World Cup 1999 was an emotional one for Sachin as he lost his father in between the series. After two very good World Cups in 1992 and 1996, Sachin had a mixed tournament in the 1999 World Cup tournament. India's campaign in the 1999 World Cup began on May 15 against South Africa. South Africa won the match by 4 wickets. India next played Zimbabwe on May 19, but without Sachin as he had to rush back home as he lost his father. Sachin's father Ramesh Tendulkar passed away on the same day of the match and hence Sachin could not play the match. However, Sachin returned and joined the team for the contest against Kenya. This was a must win game for India as the team had already lost their first two matches. India batted first and what Sachin did in this match will forever be remembered by his fans. The Master Blaster scored 140 runs in this match in an emotional innings and it was the start of the trademark Sachin style of celebrating a century where he would raise both his hands, spread them, face towards the skies as if looking for someone and thanking his father in the skies. Sachin dedicated this century to his father. India won the match by 94 runs.

However, Sachin could not do much in the next match against Sri Lanka and was dismissed for 2 runs. But Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid scored 183 and 145 respectively giving India a massive victory by 157 runs.

India next faced England in a must-win game to qualify for the Super 6. Sachin could score only 22 runs in the match, but India won the match by 63 runs thanks to fantastic bowling. After this victory, India made it to the Super Six stage.

In the quarter finals or the Super Six stage, India played three matches against Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand respectively. Sachin scored 0, 45 and 16 in these matches. India beat the 1999 World Cup finalists Pakistan but could not qualify for the semi-finals after the defeat against New Zealand. Sachin scored 231 runs in the seven out of eight matches he participated in the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999.
