Afghanistan vs Ireland Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Summary

End of Over : 48.3 IRE: 198/10

So we have witnessed another clinical performance from Afghanistan. They are outplaying Ireland with utmost ease, having all their bases covered. The hosts need to do something out of the blue if they are to keep the series alive. Join us for the 2nd ODI in Belfast on 29th August at 1045 Local (0945 GMT) to catch all the action. Till then, cheers!

Afghanistan captain, Asghar Afghan, says the first game of a series is important so is happy to win it. Credits his side's fielding in today's game. Reckons they didn't finish well in the death overs but plenty of positives to take and a lot to learn. Thanks the fans at the end of his interview for coming out and supporting the team.

Ireland captain, William Porterfield, says it was tricky but he's happy with how his side has performed. Feels they lost a few runs towards the end which he rues. Applauds Andy Balbirnie for playing well but is disappointed the rest couldn't chip in with partnerships. Admits there's plenty of work to be done. Reckons in the first 25-30 overs they were behind the pace in terms of fielding. Ends by saying they will try to do better in the next game.

Earlier, Gulbadin Naib and Hashmatullah Shahidi took the tourists to a decent total on a two-paced surface courtesy their half centuries. Their bowlers came to the party, with each one picking up a wicket at least. The fielders were on the money as well and took some good catches. Ireland have a lot of catching up to do in terms of every department. In terms of runs, 29 to be precise, this is Afghanistan's fourth closest win in ODIs. The Presentation is coming up in a while...

It was only Andy Balbirnie who applied himself and kept his side in the hunt, with a well-crafted fifty. He was involved in a run out though, Niall O'Brien being the victim. No other batsman stood out as the visitors kept on picking wickets at regular intervals. Gary Wilson hung in till the fag end but was not able to accelerate and the mounting run rate got the better of him.

A brilliant bowling performance from Afghanistan has seen them continue their domination over Ireland on this tour. However, the hosts' batsmen were themselves not proactive enough, didn't rotate the strike consistently and were not wise with their shot selections as well. The openers, William Porterfield and Paul Stirling, got off to starts but threw their wickets away.

Rashid Khan to Gary Wilson. OUT! Another one hits the sticks. Tossed up around middle, Wilson gets down to play the slog sweep but misses and the ball hits the middle stump. A strange innings from Wilson. Never looked to accelerate.
