India vs Hong Kong Highlights And Cricket Score 4th Match - ODI Summary

End of Over : 50.0 HK: 259/8

That is all from this game! Now all our attentions will be turned, if it was not already, towards the big, no wait, the HUGE game. India against Pakistan, the match which will decide who finishes Group A on top. The match starts at 1530 Local (1130 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye.

Man of the Match, Shikhar Dhawan, says that he was doing his process and believed in himself. Mentions that he was not taking extra risks and was playing on the merit of the ball. Credits one of the Hong Kong bowlers for bowling in the right areas on a slow pitch.

India skipper, Rohit Sharma, says that there were a lot of things that didn't go to plan but winning the game was the most important thing. Mentions that they made a lot of mistakes and there are no excuses for that. States that his boys have done the job earlier and he backs them. Adds that a couple of players showed a lot of character when it was needed. Opines that it was a great learning curve for them. Stresses the fact that they will be put under pressure but how they respond to it is what matters. Praises Dhawan for coming back strongly after a tough tour for England and also admires the way Rayudu played in his comeback game. Is all praises for the debutant, Khaleel Ahmed. Adds that he didn't start of well but did extremely well to fight back. Ends by saying that hopefully his boys will be fresh for the big game tomorrow.

Hong Kong skipper, Anshuman Rath, says that they are proud of the way they played but it is a bittersweet feeling. Adds that they were in a position to win this game and are disappointed with the final result. Mentions that they lost their way in the middle overs and that cost them. States that they wanted to play freely in this tournament and he is proud that his boys have done so. Adds that it would have been great if they had rolled the best team in the world over. Praises Nizakat Khan for his brilliant knock upfront and also Kinchit Shah for his terrific display with both ball and bat. Gives the credit to Shikhar Dhawan for playing a superb knock. Ends by saying that with Rayudu also batting well, 350 was on the cards for India but is happy this his bowlers were on the money at the fag end to restrict them to much less.

Earlier in the day, India, after being inserted, were going great guns, courtesy a 116-run stand between Rayudu and Dhawan. The latter got to a brilliant ton and when he was out there, India looked like crossing 300. However, a good fight back towards the fag end by the Hong Kong bowlers, especially, Kinchit Shah managed to keep the Men in Blue below 300 but that too proved to be enough.

However, today was a prime example of how important fitness is in modern day cricket. As the overs went on, Nizakat Khan started to tire out. He found it difficult to score and that built pressure. The run rate kept on building and a wicket was around the corner and that is exactly what happened. Kuldeep got the first and that opened the floodgates. It was all India after that as Khaleel the debutant then showed what he is capable of. He got rid of Nizakat who missed out on a well-deserved ton. He finished with a three-fer along with Chahal who ran through the middle order. He too ended with three wickets to his name. Thakur had a day to forget as he was taken for a plenty. However, Kedar Jadhav made up for him with a very economical spell. Kumar too did not have a great day at the office.

Chasing an above par total of 286, the Hong Kong openers came out all guns blazing. They took the attack to the Indian pacers and scored freely against them. They also tackled the spin twins really well. Yes, they did not score at the same rate against them as they did against the pacers but they were surely keeping the scoreboard moving. Nizakat Khan mainly, he was the aggressor as he got to his half ton in quick time. The skipper played the perfect foil to him as he also got to his half ton. The two added Hong Kong's highest partnership in ODI cricket and at that time they were well in the game.

So, it all ends how everyone thought it would with India winning their first game and knocking Hong Kong out of the 2018 Asia Cup. However, credit has to be given to them for the fight they have shown in this game. Especially after their outing against Pakistan, I do not think a lot people would have thought they would have fought this hard, against a team which probably a lot people felt was a tougher test.

Khaleel Ahmed to Tanwir Afzal. A beauty to end the game! India can now afford to smile as they have come out victorious. A yorker just around off, Afzal tries to jam it out but is beaten. INDIA WIN BY 26 RUNS!

49.5 1

Khaleel Ahmed to Ehsan Nawaz. Good length around off, it is guided towards point for a run.

49.4 0

Khaleel Ahmed to Ehsan Nawaz. Bringing all his variations into play here. Bowls the bumper outside off. Nawaz swings but misses.

49.3 1

Khaleel Ahmed to Tanwir Afzal. Another yorker on middle, Afzal hits it towards cover for a run.

49.2 1

Khaleel Ahmed to Ehsan Nawaz. Very full on off, it is jammed out towards covers for a run. So that probably seals the deal for India, if it was not earlier.

49.1 W

Khaleel Ahmed to Ehsan Khan. OUT! In the air... taken by the bowler himself! What a debut for this lad. A well-disguised slower ball. Khan is completely foxed as he is way too early into the shot. He only manages to lob it up in the air towards the right of the pitch. Khaleel runs towards it and takes it. His third so far. Ehsan Nawaz is the next man in.

End of Over : 49 7 Runs 50.0: 256/7
48.6 4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tanwir Afzal. FOUR! So 5 maximums is what Hong Kong need in the last over. Do they have a Yuvraj or a Gibbs in them? Kumar dishes out a full toss and the batsman hits it through mid off for a boundary.

48.5 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ehsan Khan. A full toss on middle, it is worked through mid-wicket for a run.

48.4 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tanwir Afzal. A yorker, the batsman tries to jam it out but misses to get hit on the pads. The ball rolls towards mid-wicket for a leg bye.

48.3 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Tanwir Afzal. Played to mid-wicket region by the batsman.

48.2 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ehsan Khan. A very full ball on the pads, the batsman tries to flick, misses to get hit on the pads. The ball rolls towards the leg side for a leg bye. Well, the umpire felt there was an inside edge and it has been given as a run.

48.1 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Ehsan Khan. Once again dances down the track but misses to connect. He wanted the umpire to call it a wide but the umpire does not.

Summary

A formidable India will be aiming to make short work of minnows Hong Kong in their Asia Cup opener Tuesday before getting battle-ready for their much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on Wednesday. The match against Hong Kong will be an 'appetiser' before cricket junkies are treated to a lavish spread of main course which will be the Indo-Pak rivalry. Even without regular skipper Virat Kohli, the Indian side, led by Rohit Sharma, is an intimidating one in the limited-overs format.

Although Rohit and his colleagues won't want to take Hong Kong lightly, in reality the match will only be a pre-cursor or a glorified dress rehearsal before they take on an in-form Pakistan the very next day. In the searing Dubai heat, where the mercury has risen up to 43 degree Celsius, the primary aim for the Men in Blue would be to get their combination right before the big game. Hong Kong lost their opener against Pakistan by eight wickets in a thoroughly one-sided showdown where they could manage only 116 runs.

Unless a miracle happens, there won't be a remarkable improvement in their performance against an Indian team that boasts of the likes of Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Kedar Jadhav in batting along with Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in bowling. For the past few years, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's waning batting skills have repeatedly come under scanner and this tournament will give everyone a fair idea of his ideal position.

Whether it would end up being No.5, 6 or 7 will be the big contention going into the Pakistan game. If Dhoni comes in at No.7, he will have to face a skilful Mohammed Aamir at the death along with a skiddy Usman Khan and talented Hasan Ali. Possibly, Kedar Jadhav or Manish Pandey at No.5 and Hardik Pandya with his big hitting abilities at No.7 could prove to be an ideal foil for the former India captain, if he decides to come at No 6.

The middle-order that has been an issue for India for quite some time now and need to be sorted going into the World Cup next year. It is expected that KL Rahul will bat at No.3 but the incoming deliveries from Aamir or Hasan could be a problem like it has been in England. The BCCI has already hired a left-arm throwdown specialist from Sri Lanka to ensure that the Indian have no trouble tackling Pakistan's battery of left-armers. Also, they have Khaleel Ahmed in the team to give the batsmen much-needed practice.

However, on flat decks with little movement from white kookaburra, the Indian batsmen can play their customary 'hitting on the rise' game with minimal footwork. The Hong Kong encounter will be a match simulater for the likes of Dhawan, Rahul and Pandya, who will have to adjust to the different length and pace of the track. The Bumrah-Bhuvneshwar combination will be back in action along with the Kuldeep-Chahal combination, which has been a steady set-up for past one year.

For Pakistan, the two Indian wrist-spinners will be unknown entities as they were not in the team that lost to Sarfraz Khan's men in the Champions Trophy final in England. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam are the two batting mainstays while Imam ul Haq (Inzamam ul Haq's nephew) has been pretty consistent so far.

The oldest player in the line up, all-rounder Shoaib Malik, has tremendous experience of batting in the middle overs on low slow decks of the sub-continent. The Hong Kong game will also be ideal warm-up for Bhuvneshwar, who has been out due to back injury. He recently came back to competitive cricket for India A against South Africa A.

The tickets for the Indo-Pak clash has been steeply priced with the hospitality seats costing USD 1600 (INR 1.15 lakh approx). The stadium is expected to be packed to capacity on Wednesday but one can expect a sizeable Indian population on Tuesday itself during the Hong Kong game.
