England vs Sri Lanka Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Summary

End of Over : 29.0 SL: 140/5

Right then, that's all we have from this run-truncated match. Sri Lanka have serious issues with their batting and will have to sort it out before the next game. The third ODI is on 17th October in Pallekele. Do join us at 1430 local (0900 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!

England's skipper and Man of the Match, Eoin Morgan, says it is not a bad start to the series. He feels it was not their best game with the bat as they didn't finish well in the end. States that he and Joe Root have found ways to score on such slow surfaces. Mentions he was very scratchy early in his innings but he was well supported by the batsmen who played around him. Credits the way Sri Lanka, especially Malinga bowled at the death. Appreciates Woakes and Stone for the way they bowled. He believes they can surely do a lot better than today. Tells that they played three spinners and Ben Stokes too is an option but he was not required. Ends by saying that with the rain around they wanted to get the 20 overs in quickly.

Sri Lanka's skipper, Dinesh Chandimal, credits England for the way they played. Mentions they failed to capitalize on the start they got with the ball. Admits there were mistakes committed but they showed good enthusiasm out there. He says the batting of Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera were positives. He feels the total was one they could have chased but the start was not a good one.

After early hiccups, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Perera managed to bring some sanity in the chase as they stitched in a 43-run stand. This partnership was bettered by the pair of Thisara Perera and de Silva, in which, the former appeared to be in scintillating form. Just when Thisara started to look threatening, the rain picked up its intensity and the umpires were forced to stop the game.

In pursuit, Sri Lanka were pegged back early by the English seamers. Chris Woakes snapped up three wickets and along with Olly Pope, he completely pushed the home team on the back foot. The Lankans lost 4 wickets inside Powerplay 1 and it appeared that the only thing that can save them is the rain. However, England smartly utilized their spinners from both ends to get the 20 overs bowled quickly so that there is no hindrance in their way.

A strong performance by England to go one-nil up in the series. They batted with a lot of control, especially in the first 40 overs, and managed to post a challenging total on the board. Later on, Lasith Malinga turned the clock and produced a magnificent spell to claim a 5-wicket haul. His efforts didn't allow England the kind of finish they desired for in the death overs.

CALLED OFF! We're getting the official confirmation that the second ODI has been called off due to incessant rain. ENGLAND WIN BY 31 RUNS (DLS) and go 1-0 up in the series.

Update 1637 local - The clock is ticking and we have started to lose overs as well. No improvement in conditions as it continues to rain. Signs are ominous. Stay with us for more updates...

Update 1605 local - It's pelting down now and the whole ground is covered. Things not looking too promising currently. We can play until 1800 local time, so let's be positive. Stay tuned.

PLAY STOPPED! The two umpires now come together and now they have decided to call for the covers. It's been drizzling for quite some time and finally, the match officials feel that the conditions are not conducive enough to carry on. Large blue covers are enveloping the entire field as the rain is picking up its intensity. Needless to say, England are well ahead on the DLS par score. Stay tuned for more updates...
