Sri Lanka vs England Live Cricket Score - 3rd ODI Match - Summary

End of Over : 18.3 ENG: 153/3

So that is it from this game! Another truncated one and once again the English side come out on top. They haven't lost a bilateral series of 3-matches or more since 2017. They now can't lose this one also. However, the hosts can still level the series as there are two more games to go. The 4th ODI will take place on the 20th of October on the same venue at 0945 AM local (0415 AM GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!

FOUR! UP AND OVER! Fifty for Morgan! His good form in ODIs continues. Back-to-back fifties for him. Also this is his 41st in this format. Short and wide outside off, Morgan cuts it over backward point and the ball races away. A gift to get to that milestone. Poor bowling with third man up. Morgan though, raises his bat to soak in the applause by the crowd.

16.3 1

Ball hits the batsman low on the pads. The batsmen have run through for a single. Leg byes signalled by the umpire.

Summary

England defeated Sri Lanka by 31 runs (D/L method) in the second ODI of the five-match series in Sri Lanka. Batting first England scored a commendable score of 278 for loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Captain Eoin Morgan scored 92 runs while Joe Root scored 71 for the visitors. Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow also chipped in with useful runs. Lasith Malinga produced one of his vintage performance by picking 5 wickets which did not allow England to cross 300 run mark.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost three early wickets as the English bowlers struck early. Kusal Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera scored some vital runs as the Lankans scored 140 runs for the loss of five wickets in 29 overs when umpires called off the game due to wet outfield. England were well ahead on the DLS par score and were eventually declared winners to go one nil up in the series. The hosts have some serious issues to address going into the third match.
