Australia vs South Africa Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 48.3 AUS: 231/10

Okay then. Time for some break. I badly need some coffee. Australia have got some score on the board. The pitch looks flat but there is bounce. Not much turn. 232 should not be too much of a headache of a chase but if the Aussies can get de Kock and du Plessis before the score touches 100, well, you never know... Join us back at 6.05 pm local (0735 GMT).

Time for a Chris Lynn interview. The Australian T20 star admits that the batting display is very disappointing as the batsmen could not convert their starts. Feels that the Aussies are 50 runs short but also hopes that his team has a good bowling attack and wants them to start well. On getting dismissed by Rabada, Chris says that he tried to get the wood over the Protea but unfortunately could not. On the send-off, Lynn is not too perturbed and puts it down to part and parcel of the game. Adds further that if Rabada does come out to bat, then Starc and Hazlewood will remind him in their style though.

Dwaine Pretorius feels that the South African bowlers bowled pretty well, adjusting to the lines and lengths. On making it to the World Cup squad, Pretorius says that one just needs to perform and the other things can take care of themselves. On his knee injury, Dwaine recounts it as a very tough experience and feared that his cricketing career would be over. Is happy that he is fit now and can play.

When you pick 5 bowlers in your side, your bowling needs to perform. And it did again, for South Africa. Dale Steyn did not strike early on but was economical. Lungi Ngidi had a bad outing and for a second, it seemed like Kagiso Rabada would too, but he came back strongly to finish with a 4-fer. However, the pick of the bowlers was Dwaine Pretorius, who ran through the middle order, getting Finch, Maxwell and Stoinis, leaving Australia with no power hitters at the death. Here he is, having a chat.

Same old story for Australia. None of the openers batting long and no one from the middle order gutsing it out. Alex Carey tried to do that today but he got run out of partners. All the batsmen were trying to bash the ball almost every time, trying to get to 300 or 350 and have fallen well short.

Then, came a period where Lynn cut loose. He smashed Kagiso Rabada for 18 runs in 4 balls but eventually, the latter had his revenge. That, was the turning point. Australia slipped from 133/3 to 170/6 and kept on losing momentum, before the last-wicket pair gave some respect to the total.

Well, that is some sort of a recovery from the Aussie tail but they are at least 30-40 runs short. The partnership between Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch seemed to be showing control and then Finch and Lynn showed patience. But, the middle order gave it away.

48.3 W

Fast and fiery from Steyn, 145.5 kph, it is landed on a length, but Cummins is not sure whether to come forward or play it from his crease. He does neither and goes half-heartedly at it. 14.3 4

Dwaine Pretorius to Aaron Finch. FOUR! GORGEOUS! Who remembers the previous ball? Certainly not Finch! Full and outside off, Aaron drives it straight back. The bowler tries to get out of the way, which is a smart thing and the ball races down to the fence!

14.2 0

Dwaine Pretorius to Aaron Finch. NOT OUT! Impact is umpire's call! The Australian skipper heaves a huge sigh of relief. Tell you, that was very, very close. On a length outside off, coming back in, Finch looked to defend and the ball went to point. Pretorius appealed but the umpire turned it down. The bowler was confident that the ball hit the pad first and skipper Faf du Plessis went with his young bloke. Review time. Hawk Eye shows the impact to be very, very marginal! To the naked eye, in the replays, without Hawk Eye, that looked to be hitting in line...

Okay... what do we have here? Pretorius reckons that he has Finch LBW and Faf has taken the review. Looks close. Where is the impact?

14.1 0

Dwaine Pretorius to Aaron Finch. Outside off, played straight to point.

Lungi Ngidi to Shaun Marsh. Outside off, left alone.

3.2 W

Lungi Ngidi to Travis Head. OUT! LBW! That is the plumbest of LBWs one would get. Waste, total waste from Head and Finch. Full and around off, swinging in, Travis looks to flick but misses it, falling over in the process and getting hit on the pads. Ngidi almost does not appeal at all and starts to celebrate, because it was that plumb. Still, for formalities, he starts to appeal. The umpire raises his finger immediately. Head walks across to Finch and then decides to review but Hawk Eye proves him to be totally wrong. Finch has not been the best when it comes to reviews. Did not review one in Perth when he should have and now, agreed with Head to review one when he should have let it be. Early strike again for South Africa.

South Africa are tightening their lines and lengths. They were a bit awry in the first 2 overs but they are learning now.

Travis Head has been adjudged LBW! He has taken the review though. Looks dead plumb. Unless, the impact is outside off.

1.5 1

Lungi Ngidi to Aaron Finch. RUN OUT CHANCE MISSED! Ohh... David Miller nearly pulled off another one, like he did at the WACA. Finch worked this towards mid-wicket and set off for a quick single. David Miller charged on to the ball from short mid-wicket and then had an under-arm flick at the bowler's end, only to miss. The Aussie skipper was a goner.

TEAM CHANGES - Australia have made two changes to their side - Shaun Marsh and Adam Zampa come in place of D'Arcy Short and Nathan Coulter-Nile. South Africa have made one change - Dwayne Pretorius replaces Andile Phehlukwayo.

Toss - South Africa have won the toss and chosen to field first. So once again, the Aussie batsmen will be under pressure to put a huge total on board.

Hello and a warm welcome to the 2nd ODI between Australia and South Africa in Adelaide. The visitors would be looking to finish the series today by winning this match. On the other hand, the Kangaroos would look to end their losing rut, having lost 7 ODIs in a row. Interestingly, the last ODI which Australia won, was at the Adelaide Oval itself, earlier this year against England. The Proteas' bowling is again going to be the talking point in this match. The hosts would be looking to improve their batting and score big if they are put in to bat first. Hopefully, we get a contest.

End of Over : 50.0 SA: 224/9

26 January 2018 - the last time Australia won an ODI at the Adelaide Oval. 9th November 2018 - Australia break their 7-match losing streak. Both games happened at the Adelaide Oval. Can Australia build on this win? Or will South Africa show their ruthlessness in the series decider? These two teams have played each other only once at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart - way back in 2009. The Aussies won that by 5 runs. Join us on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 1.50 pm local (0250 GMT) to find out who wins the series. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

VICTORIOUS AUSTRALIAN CAPTAIN, AARON FINCH HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. This is for scoring an attacking 41 with the bat and then winning the game for Australia with some excellent captaincy. Finch praises his bowlers for being relentless in trying to defend that total. Does not want to put it down to relief but hard work. Wants to justify that by winning in Hobart again. On the bowling plans, Finch says that the bowlers aimed not to give easy runs and make scoring difficult. Admits that he gambled rotating the bowlers and finishing Cummins and Hazlewood early but he has to take some risks as Miller and Faf du Plessis were playing well. Adds further that had he not done that, the game would have dragged on till the 45th over but Australia would have lost. On the flip side, the Aussies might still have lost had the wickets not fallen but then there is no difference whether you lose in the 45th or the 35th over. On Zampa, he is happy that the leggie has gained some confidence back for himself.

South African skipper, Faf du Plessis, says that the defeat tonight is a tough pill to swallow. Feels sad for his bowlers after they did all the hard work. But blames no one from himself as he realizes that he should have taken it deeper. Feels that the wicket was slower and Australian seamers were bowling really well. So the plan was to see off the pacers and attack the spinner but the opposition gambled by keeping the spinner (Zampa) till the end and it paid off for them. Admits that his wicket opened the floodgates but also says that good teams usually chase such scores down. Adds further that 232 was not a score worth winning and the Proteas have let themselves down. On Miller's knock, Faf says that he hoped that Pretorius would take the team over the line with around 80 or 90 to get but now wishes that he does better in the next game. Admits that the team is very much disappointed but these days, there is no time left to rue. They need to get that out of the system quickly and come back fresh on Sunday.

Mitchell Starc now has a chat with Brendon Julian. Says that it is nice to get a win after working so hard. On the bowling, Starc says that the team just kept themselves in the hunt by taking wickets at regular intervals. Praises Cummins and Stoinis for bowling well in the middle overs and taking the wickets of Miller and du Plessis. Admits that there is still some work to do but Australia will take the win. Agrees that he likes to bowl with the new ball and today he bowled with a bit of anger, since he was not given the new ball in the previous game. Feels that he had a good workout and is feeling fitter and better. Time now for the presentation.

Marcus Stoinis says that he is very tired after a really stressful game. On the win, Marcus says that the team can definitely build on this. Admits that it has been a tough 6 months and they can now chill out, cheekily adding, for 1 day. On his celebration, MS says that there is no thinking about it but pure passion to play for Australia. Adds that he loves to have a bit of a sledge with the opposition.

And now, the talk of the town. My colleague KingVic calls him the Hulk. Marcus Stoinis. Out of nowhere, he picked up 3 wickets for just 35 runs. The spotlight was on Starc, Joshua and Patrick but this guy sneaked in and actually bowled well. Klaasen was generous enough to gift him his wicket while Stoinis closed the game with the wicket of Miller. Then dismissed Steyn later on. Here is Marcus, ready for an interview with Neroli Meadows.

As far as Australia are concerned, they will take this win. It is not their problem if the opposition plays poor cricket. Hazlewood and Cummins bowled their hearts out but the rest were purely lucky in getting the wickets. The odd good ball was always there but they will admit that they have gotten away with this one. Starc looked rusty again, but managed to bowl some decent deliveries in between to end with 2 wickets. Hazlewood bowled consistently for his 2-fer while Pat Cummins - wow. Vote for him for the most hard-working Australian cricketer. Whether team wins or loses, gives more than a 100 percent. Here, his 1/27 in 10 overs stifled the Proteas in the middle overs. Adam Zampa was ordinary again and was lucky not to get tonked around because he was being protected till the main batsmen got dismissed.

At 68/4 in the 15th over, the Aussies were well on top but a 74-run stand between skipper Faf du Plessis and David Miller raised the Protea hopes. However, once the captain fell, the Aussies started to close in. David Miller tried to hang around and got a half century as well but could not quite close it out. To sum it up, the Proteas simply messed it up.

To be honest, South Africa will be disappointed on missing out on an opportunity to close the series here itself. 232 was not such a great target and if you see, the defeat margin was not that great. The top order just threw its wickets away, barring Reeza Hendricks and that hurt the team big time.

Relief for Australia. They have broken their 7-match losing streak at a ground where they last won an ODI. But tonight, they have fought hard and have deserved to win, in spite of a poor batting display from both sides. The series is level 1-1 now.

49.6 4

Glenn Maxwell to Imran Tahir. FOUR! It is a boundary but will not matter. AUSTRALIA HAVE WON BY 7 RUNS TO KEEP THE SERIES ALIVE. Full and outside off, Tahir comes down the track and flays it over cover to end the game.

49.5 1

Glenn Maxwell to Lungi Ngidi. That will be it. Unless Maxwell bowls a couple of no balls and gets hit for sixes, the game is dusted. Full and around off, Ngidi swings hard but loses his grip, loses his bat and gets the ball towards deep mid-wicket. The willow is broken off the string and goes towards short mid-wicket. A single is taken and South Africa need 12 from the final ball.

49.4 1

Glenn Maxwell to Imran Tahir. 'OHHHHHHHH!' screams Tahir in anguish before Ngidi makes him realize that the game is not over yet. Full and outside off, Imran swings hard but only gets a thick outside edge towards short third man. The batsman thinks that the game is over but if Ngidi can get the next two away over the ropes, it can still be a tie. 13 needed from 2 balls.

49.3 1

The ball arrives ever so late and goes past the outside edge. Carey collects it and then whips off the bails and confidently appeals towards the square leg umpire. The Aussies are smiling and they reckon this is out. Replays show that while Ngidi's foot was dragged out, it came back in before Carey could take the bails off.

HOWZZAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT? Carey belts an appeal and confidently looks at the square leg umpire. Aaron Finch is running in from point and is already celebrating. Australia reckon that Ngidi is stumped. Referred upstairs...

43.3 W

Marcus Stoinis to David Miller. OUT! That is out! The umpire has to reverse his decision! Well, that is really surprising. I mean, just figure this out. Miller is batting outside his crease. Then, he walks down the track to flick, which means he has nearly covered half the pitch distance. Misses his flick to a length ball and is hit on the pads. Stoinis appeals but umpire Gough stays calm. Not to be blamed, because that did look not out to the naked eye. But Stoinis is desperate. He asks Carey and the keeper says that it pitched outside leg, Probably not sure about the height either. But a frustrated Marcus just ignores him and pleads with his captain to go for the review. Finch agrees. And voila! Hawk Eye shows it to be dead plumb! What happened to the 3-metre rule? One would say, a lucky, lucky wicket for Australia. But they will take it. 10.1 W

Josh Hazlewood to Reeza Hendricks. OUT! Caught behind! Oh dear and then they were three. Probably the best ball of the chase. On a length it is, in the corridor of Hazlewood. Which means, that corridor of uncertainty, the avenue of apprehension. Should I play? Should I let it go? Hendricks is in that conundrum as well. Feels for it, then wants to take his bat away. Too late. The ball takes the outside edge and Alex Carey does the rest after appealing. They check for the overstepping but Josh is just fine. Reckon that the Saffas are in a small bit of a wobble here. 184 more needed from 239 balls.

9.1 W

Pat Cummins to Reeza Hendricks. OUT! Markram is short! Another bonus wicket for Australia. But the fielding was pretty good on this occasion - the throw, even better. A length ball, around middle, Hendricks worked it through mid-wicket and jogged across. The batsmen take two easily and Markram was watching at the non-striker's end, towards his partner. He did not take a start at all and then began running after Hendricks came halfway through. Marcus Stoinis gave it a good chase from short mid-wicket and released a powerful throw. Clean and straight it came, towards the keeper. Alex Carey was ready, waiting for the throw and removed the bails. Markram had dived in his crease but seemed to be short. It got referred upstairs and replays are interesting. Aiden would have got in with a dive but while diving, the bat went in the air. Inside the crease but in the air. Tough luck.

Is that a run out? Aiden Markram looks to be in trouble. Referred upstairs...

Aiden Markram comes in at number 3, replacing de Kock.

4.1 W

Mitchell Starc to Quinton de Kock. OUT! A soft dismissal! Well o well. Australia needed an early wicket and it is not Starc who has provided it. De Kock has gifted his wicket away. A loose delivery, down the leg side, could have put away anywhere. De Kock connects his flick well but to his horror, he finds Adam Zampa to perfection at long leg! No one can believe what has happened. A struggling Starc is sheepish. Zampa cannot believe either that the ball has come straight to him. De Kock is so frustrated that the batsmen do not even cross! 214 more needed from 275 balls.

End of Over : 4 3 Runs SA: 18/0
