That brings us to the close of a hard-fought contest. Ireland will be pleased that they got through but they have to be learn to be more responsible. Another slip might have cost them the match. Afghanistan, on the other hand, need to improve their batting. We are all set to have an edge-of-the-seat finale. Join us for all the action on 31st August at 1045 local (0945 GMT). Till then, cheers!

Ireland skipper, William Porterfield says that it was a very good performance for them. Mentions that in the previoous series as well, they lost the first game and had bounced back after that. Credits Simi Singh for batting well and taking his side through. Praises his bowlers for being on the money. States that they were disappointed as they failed to get over the finish line in the previous game. Admits that it would have been good if they had won with 10-15 overs to spare but is relieved that they won this game. Ends by saying that he anticipates a close battle in the final.

Afghanistan skipper, Asghar Afghan says that they played well in this game. Feels that they were around 20 runs short but he is happy with the way his boys played. Feels that the wicket was not difficult and they needed to perform better.

The Man of the Moment, Andy Balbirnie is being interviewed on the sidelines. He says that they needed a win like this after the last game. States that it would have been nice if he remained not out. Mentions that he enjoys playing for Ireland. Feels that it will be a close game again on Friday.

However, Simi Singh showed great temperament and a calm head on his shoulders as he took the hosts past the finishing line with some handy support from Tim Murtagh who managed to hold his fort for 11 deliveries.

Rashid Khan then dismissed Andy Balbirnie to put the cat among the pigeons. The tourists could smell an upset as their spinners tightened the screws on the Irish lower order. At one stage Ireland were 164 when they lost their seventh wicket in the form of Andy McBrine.

The wily leggie, Rashid Khan, then got into the act trapping Kevin O'Brine in front. However, Andy Balbirnie dug in hard and came up with a well crafted half century giving the Irish chase some direction. Simi Singh gave him apt support as the two put on a 47-run stand to take the home team within 39 runs from a victory.

A win at last for the home team. A deserving one at that. They just about scratched their way home in the end. After a shaky start, losing Porterfield in the very first over, Ireland crawled their way back into the chase with a 69-run handy partnership between Paul Stirling and Andy Balbirnie. It seemed smooth sailing until the most experienced player from the visiting team, Mohammad Nabi, struck twice, dismissing Stirling and Niall O'Brine.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Tim Murtagh. Big shout for LBW, turned down! Mujeeb is not happy. He feels he had his man. He keeps it full on off, Murtagh comes forward to turn it into the leg side. The ball pitches and spins away from Tim, beats his bat and brushes his front pad before going behind. There is a strong appeal from the bowler and the fielders but the umpire shows no interest. The replay shows that it was probably missing the off stump. Good call. A good spell from Mujeeb ends. He finishes with figures of 10-0-41-1.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Tim Murtagh. Not Out! He's safe. Beautifully bowled by Mujeeb. He gives this one some flight and keeps it full on off. Murtagh is dragged forward, out of his crease, as he tries to push at the ball. It turns away after pitching and beats the bat. Shahzad behind the stumps takes the bails off in lightning fast speed and feels he has got his man. The square leg umpire goes upstairs. Replays show that Murtagh's back foot is just about inside the crease, or has he been given the benefit of the doubt? After several replays, the third umpire decides it is not out but that was very close though.
