The floodgates were opened by Cottrell, who dismissed Imam-ul-Haq in the third over. Fakhar Zaman, who played several attractive strokes, departed for 22 as he was bowled by Andre Russell in the sixth over. Russell's bouncer to Zaman dragged on to the stumps and that exposed the Pakistani batsmen's vulnerability that was exploited to the hilt by the West Indian pacers, especially Oshane Thomas, Andre Russell and Jason Holder.

Babar Azam showed some fight but even he was dismissed for 22 despite a chance. The middle order failed completely as all the batsmen except Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Hafiz Saeed and Wahab Riaz failed to reach even the double digit mark. Thanks to Wahab Riaz's 18 towards the end, Pakistan managed to go beyong 100. This is Pakistan's second lowest total in all the editions of the Cricket World Cup. West Indies need 106 runs to win the match.
